Encoder Type

I was wondering for connecting an external encoder to the smart-controller cx is there a certain type of encoder needed the one i currently have is a two track encoder but doesn't have an i track as shown in the wiring diagram.

The i+ and i- signals are used for zero index checking. They are not required for the belt encoder connection to function. You should only need the 6 remaining wires. ( A+, A-, B+, B-, 5 volt, Ground)

After wiring the encoder you can verify its function by clicking on the Encoder button available through the SmartController object of the Adept ACE interface, see image below. If you spin the encoder you should see the position count change.
