Robot Stops Talking

Postby AHartzel » Tue May 22, 2012 11:01 am

Has anyone come across a situation where the robot stopped talking? I have just dealt with a problem where the customer reported that when they came in on Monday it was not talking. It is a demo robot that has been in use for two weeks now, and has had no problems up to this point. I performed a reboot and that restored the voice but of course the customer is wondering why it happened and what may have caused it? Any help would be appreciated.

Andrew,

Thanks for the question, and for using the forum to pose it.

One thing that might have caused the voice to stop is that the breaker for the speaker was flipped. Unfortunately, it is possible to trip this breaker by setting volume high enough and having the robot talk or play a loud .wav file. Fortunately the speaker is preserved, and the breaker is reset when the robot is power cycled. If this happens again they could try turning the power down slightly. If this has only happened once in two weeks you've probably got a case where it is just on the edge and a small reduction will do the trick.

There are several ways to change the volume, outlined here:

Please let me know if this resolves the issue.
